    George H. Thomas Autograph Letter Signed to recently elected Governor of Ohio, John Brough. One page on imprinted letterhead, 7.75" x 10"; Chattanooga, May 4, 1864. Brief letter recommending a Col. J.W. Burke, who is "desirous of recruiting a Regiment of Garrison Artillery for the service of the United States from the enlisted men of the 10th Ohio and other Regiments of that State... If you feel favorably towards the above recommendation it would afford me much pleasure to have the Regiment ordered to duty in this Army." Thomas signs with his rank. Brough, a War Democrat, was elected governor of Ohio six months earlier, running on a pro-Union ticket.
    Condition: A single flattened fold runs vertically; gently toned, with a darker strip along the left margin. A few pencil notations by a previous collector.
