    General Thomas Williams Document Signed as Major, 5th Artillery. One page printed document filled in by hand, 11" x 8.25", Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, August 1, 1861, a discharge for M. Edgar Richards. Signed at lower right "T Williams/ Maj 5th Arty". Records show that Richards would soon re-enlist as adjutant in the Pennsylvania 96th Infantry, becoming aide-de-camp to General Bartlett before mustering out in 1864. Thomas, a veteran of the Black Hawk, Seminole, and Mexican-American wars, was killed at the Battle of Baton Rouge. Very fine with one tiny paper tear at lower margin.
