    General Nathaniel Lyon Signature and Carte de Visite. Two items, as follows: (1) An ink signature on a 3.25" x 2.25" sheet "N Lyon/ Bvt Capt 2nd Infy/..." (2) A full-length pose in frock coat with epaulettes, holding his sword and slouch hat. E. Anthony backmark (New York). A veteran of the Seminole and Mexican-American Wars, Lyon was assigned to the Union Arsenal in St. Louis in February 1861 and is credited for stopping the Missouri secession movement. He was killed at the Battle of Wilson's Creek, the first Union general killed in the Civil War. Both very fine.
