    Description

    General Mortimer D. Leggett Signed Carte de Visite, also Signed by Erastus N. Owen, his Aide de Camp. This full-length photo shows to men in field garb and is signed by both on the verso: "M. D. Leggett/ Col Comdg 2nd Brig" and "Lieut E. N. Owen/ A. A. A. Genl 2nd Brigade". Leggett was wounded at Vicksburg and later commanded the 3rd Division of the VII Corps during the Atlanta Campaign and Sherman's March to the Sea. In 1871, he was appointed by Grant as United States Commissioner of Patents where he served for ten years. Owen was detached from his service in the Ohio 20th Infantry to serve as major in the 9th Louisiana Infantry, African Descent. Very fine.
