General James Ewell Brown "JEB" Stuart: Albumen Photograph and Clipped Signature. This iconic image, measuring 4" x 5.5", features the heavily bearded Southern general in full uniform, grasping the hilt of his saber with his left hand, his hat in his right. The image is mounted to a backing sheet to an overall size of 5.5" x 8.5". Accompanying the image is a 2.5" x 1.25" clipped signature, circa September 1861-July 1862, reading "J.E.B.Stuart / Brig Genl," mounted to a black backing card to an overall size of 4.25" x 2.5". Adhesive ghosting is present, but does not obscure the signature. Stuart was promoted to major general on July 25, 1862, and retained this rank until his death at the Battle of Yellow Tavern, May 11, 1864.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
