    Description

    General George Meade Autograph Letter Signed. One page of a bifolium, 5" x 8.25" (sight), no place; December 29, 1863. Written on Headquarters, Army of the Potomac stationery and addressed to a Miss Harris. It reads in full: "I return to you, your card & silk with my attempt, to write my name - which you will perceive was not very successful & will not be very ornamental to your quilt. If you will favor me with some other pieces I will try again as I am desirous of evincing my sense of the complement you have been pleased to pay me." Signed, "Geo. G. Meade / Maj Genl of Wes." Matted and framed to an overall size of 9.75" x 13.25". Not examined outside of the frame.

    Condition: Smoothed folds.
