    General George Custer: Autograph Note Signed (ANS) From Fort Hays, Kansas.
    1 p., ANS, Fort Hays Kansas, April 29, 1867, 7.5" x 9.75", fine. This note was written by Custer at the very start of his career as an Indian Fighter, in full: "Fort Hays, Kansas April 29, 1867 Read this day, a letter had already been forwarded to the enclosed address. G.A. Custer Bvt. Maj. Genl. U.S.A.". This note comes from the Libby Custer Collection that was sold in 2013. Libby would often follow General Custer as he traveled to various forts in the Indian Territory. Two of the main forts were Abraham Lincoln and Fort Hays. As Custer would send Libby letters and envelopes she kept them, and after his death gave many of these coveted piece to close friends. The note is written in dark ink with a bold Custer signature.
