    M.O.H. Winner

Francis E. Brownell: Signed Presentation Portrait. 9" x 10.5" (edges trimmed irregularly) photograph of Francis E. Brownell, the avenger of Colonel Elmer Ellsworth. In this post-war image, Brownell is seen in his G.A.R. uniform wearing all his war-related medals and veteran badges, including the M.O.H. He has inscribed the portrait below in purple ink: "To the daughter of my sincere friend/ John A. Millard Esq with my/ best wishes/ Frank E. Brownell/ U. S. Army/ Wash. D.C./ Jany 26/80". Some faint damp stains at bottom which affect the inscription to a small degree.

After the war, Francis E. Brownell twice put his name forward to receive the Medal of Honor. He succeeded a third time with the help of his congressman and finally received the decoration in 1877. Although sixteen years after the event, his medal marked the first action of the Civil War to merit this high award.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
