    Description

David Porter Autograph Letter Signed with David Farragut ANS written beneath, both addressed to Stephen Trenchard. One page, 7.75" x 9.75", on blue-lined paper, May 30, 1862. Contains two short notes to Commander Trenchard of the USS Rhode Island, a Union gunboat and supply ship. Porter writes (aboard the US Steamer Harriet Lane): "The bearer Mr A. G. Hills, correspondent of the Boston Journal desires to obtain a passage to New York in the Rhode Island [USS Rhode Island]. By granting him such a privilege you will oblige. Yours truly, D D Porter"

Farragut adds, directly beneath Porter's letter: "Dr. Sir, You can take Mr. Hill if you think proper, as I have no objection. D. G. Farragut F. O. [Flag Officer]"

The text is clear and bold, with minimal toning. Very fine.
