On the verso of the studio board are affixed two letters, one an 8 ½" x 11" one page typed letter on Headquarters Department of Massachusetts Grand Army of the Republic letterhead, dated February 28, 1910 discussing Cobb's painting and the intention of the G.A.R. to present his painting to the state of Massachusetts to be hung in the state capitol. The letter is signed by Assistant Adjutant General Israel H. DeWolf.
