    Daniel Sickles Autograph Letter Signed "D. Sickles." Two pages, 10.5" x 8", on Headquarters, Department of South Carolina letterhead, Charleston, December 7, 1866, to Col. Thomas Wentworth Higgins regarding the acquittal of Lt. Col. Charles T. Trowbridge whose "case has been sent to Washington for review by order of the President." Trowbridge was accused and tried (twice) of executing a Confederate soldier without trial. Unevenly toned with areas of soiling.
