    Description

Custer's 7th Cavalry Lieutenant F.M. Gibson Orders Horse to be Shot! Partly-printed Document Signed. One page, 7.5" x 9", Dakota Territory, May 2, 1878. Post Order #81 In Part: "The Post Q.M. will shoot immediately the horse reported as effected [sic] with Glanders, by the Board of Survey convened by Post Order No. 78..." Gibson was first assigned to duty on the western frontier and became famous as an Indian Scout and was with the 2nd Battalion of the Seventh Cavalry, under Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer, when Custer was surrounded and killed and his supporting battalion wiped out by Indians at the Battle of the Little Bighorn. Gibson was among the first officers to ride to the rescue, but arrived too late. Lieutenant Donald McIntosh, who was killed with Custer, was Gibson's brother-in-law. Gibson recovered McIntosh's body and both are buried in Arlington National Cemetery.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
