Confederate General John M. Jones Carte de Visite Signed "Jno. M. Jones / C.S.A." 2.5" x 4". Gen. Jones and his impressive mustache are featured in a vignetted portrait, wearing the uniform of a Confederate general. With an E. & H.T. Anthony backstamp.

John M. Jones (1820-1864), a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy, served on the frontier during the Utah War until 1860. When his native Virginia seceded in 1861, Jones resigned his commission and joined the Confederate cause, serving first as a captain of artillery and later as a colonel on the staff of Stonewall Jackson during the Shenandoah Campaign. Promoted to brigadier general, he was wounded in the head on Culp's Hill during the Battle of Gettysburg. Recovering, he was wounded again a few months later during the Mine Run Campaign. He was killed during the first day of the Battle of the Wilderness.
