    Confederate General John B. Floyd Endorsement Signed. "John B. Floyd." One page, 7.75" x 9.5", Russellville, Kentucky; February 2, 1862. Endorsement of request by Major and Assistant Adjutant General Henry B. Davison to be relieved from duty.

    Davidson's request reads: "I have the honor to request that I be relieved from duty with this Division. There being two A. A. Gens. present my services can be dispensed with."

    Floyd provides his endorsement thus: "I comply with this the second application of Major Davidson however much I regret to part with him.

    John Buchanan Floyd (1806-1863) was Governor of Virginia (1849-1852), U.S. Secretary of War under President James Buchanan (1857-1860), and a general in the army of the Confederate States of America, who was primarily known for losing the critical Battle of Fort Donelson.

    Henry Brevard Davidson (1831-1899) was an officer in the U.S. Army before the Civil War. At the outbreak of the war, he resigned his commission and served in various staff positions in the Confederate States Army. On August 18, 1863, he was promoted to brigadier general. In 1864, he was transferred to Virginia and served in the Valley Campaigns of 1864.

    Condition: Document has usual folds, with weakening along both horizontal folds (uppermost fold has been partially repaired by tape on verso) and at the intersections of folds; otherwise good.
