    Confederate General James Longstreet Autograph Letter Signed "J. Longstreet." One and one-half pages of one leaf in pencil, 6" x 9", New Orleans, March 29, 1866, to General H. M. Whittelsey regarding an order to return property taken during the Civil War. Smoothed folds with a chip along the lower edge affecting the letters of one word. A tear exists along the lower left corner. A cello tape repair exists on the front of the letter. Tape exists along the left edge. General Longstreet writes in part:

    "I have determined to send you the copy of the order by which I received the ambulance and train: about which you wrote me. It is not clear to my mind that the ambulance and train should went[?] to the Govt. it was part of the property to be surrendered at Appomattox C.H. but by this order was turned over to him[?] without invoice or receipt upon the inclosed order."
