    Confederate General Howell Cobb Autograph Letter Signed. One page, 7.5" x 9.5", on Head-Quarters, Georgia Reserves letterhead, Macon [Georgia], April 26, 1864, introducing "Mr. Clay of Ala - the gentleman about whom I wrote . . . in connection with the proposed purchase of the 'Southern Confederacy' newspaper." Smoothed folds are toned.

    Before becoming one of the founders of the Confederate States, Howell Cobb (1815-1868) served five terms in the U.S. House, as secretary of the treasury under President Buchanan, and as governor of Georgia. He later became a major general in the Confederate Army.
