Confederate General Carter L. Stevenson Autograph Letter Signed. One page, folded down to 3.25" x 5", n.p., November 14, 1861. Stevenson was a lieutenant colonel and adjutant general when he wrote this letter, asking that "Genl. Jackson please cause notice to be given each member of the Court . . . If there should be other cases, presented, he will please examine the charges & if he should think it proper, order them to be tried." Two weeks after writing this, he was promoted to colonel of the 53rd Virginia Infantry. Two months later, in February 1862, he was promoted to brigadier general. General Beauregard's intervention directed Stevenson to the west where he proved himself an able division commander at Champion's Hill, Vicksburg, Lookout Mountain, Atlanta, and Nashville. He surrendered with Gen. Joseph E. Johnston in April 1865. Areas of light staining with soiling seen in places along the edges. Text is bold.
