    Confederate General Benjamin Huger Letter Signed as commander of Pikesville Arsenal to the secretary of war [John B. Floyd] concerning "the armory at Harper's Ferry." One page, 8" x 10", March 5, 1858, Pikesville Arsenal [Maryland]. On lined paper; fine.

    More Information:

    Written a year before John Brown's famous raid on the Harpers Ferry Arsenal in Virginia, Huger writes, "Mr. Daingerfield was the clerk in the Office of the Paymaster while I had charge of the Armory at Harpers Ferry. He is well qualified to perform the duty of Pay Master, & I recommend him for the place." Huger, a Confederate general known for his timidity on the battlefield, served the second half of the war away from the battlefield in various staff positions.
