Confederate Captain Benjamin Watkins Leigh, Jr., Killed in Action at Gettysburg, War-Date Autograph Document Signed "B. W. Leigh, Capt. / 1st Va. Bat. Prov. Army C.S.A.". One page, 5.5" x 5.25", on blue-lined brown paper, April 1, 1863, Camp Corbin. Leigh signs a receipt for a horse. It reads in full: "I certify that I have this the 1st day / of April, 1863 at Camp Corbin's Neck / turned over to Capt. F. Saunders, A.Q.M. / 42nd Reg Va, one bay mare in pretty / good condition, the property of the Con- / federate States." Leigh is probably best remembered for his assistance in helping the mortally wounded Stonewall Jackson off the battlefield at the Battle of Chancellorsville. Leigh was killed on July 3, 1863 at Gettysburg. This clear, legible document is accompanied by several pages of information regarding Leigh and the death of Stonewall Jackson.
