Confederate Blockade Runner Lillian: Captured Crew List and Confiscated Confederate Bond. The Lillian was captured by the USS Gettysburg and USS Keystone State on August 24, 1864, after she tried to slip out of the Wilmington, North Carolina, harbor, laden with over 1000 bales of cotton and bound for Europe.

The captured crew list (one partly-printed large sheet, 26.5" x 19.5", August 24, 1864) is headed, "List of Officers, Passengers, and Crew on board the Prize Steamer 'Lillian', Captured off ____ . . . by the U. S. Steamer 'Gettysburg' Lieut R. H. Lamson Comd'g." Five people are listed: the master, chief mate, chief engineer, and two passengers. Several other columns contain more information, such as "State or Country Where Born," "Profession," "Disposition Made," and more. The crew list is signed by Commanding Officer Peirce Crosby of the USS Keystone State. Docketed on the reverse. Mostly clean, though with minor soiling. Folds. The confiscated Confederate 6% bond (17" x 26") came from an act of February 17, 1864. All sixty coupons are present; each bears a red "X" (made by the Union captors to make them worthless) and is numbered 4342. Minor soiling. A few separations beginning along some folds and at fold intersections. One intersection separation has been repaired with tape on the reverse.
