    Colonial Yorktown: Autograph Letter Signed concerning "prisoners from Canada." One page, 7.25" x 11.5", Yorktown, December 5, 1775. Charles Lukens writes to his father, John, the surveyor- general of Pennsylvania and Delaware. Address panel and seal remnants on verso. Folds and minor paper loss to lower margin, though no loss of text.

    More Information:

    In part, "I . . . am very thankful for the appmt. made. . . . I have with some others of this Place made some Calculations for what the prisoners from Canada can be Provided for P[er] man P[er] day, and find we cannot at this place by what is necessary for each Ration under 9:d & I know myself so very unfit for such business, must beg the favour of you to take back the appmt. in my favour -- at this time my business as Sheff to Settle of old Actions will by no means admit of my being employed in that way."
