Jackson, June 19, 1912", Lexington, Virginia, Rockbridge County News Print, 64pp., 1912. Signed on the front cover: "Compliments of R. P. Chew". Some chipping to spine and covers, generally a fine, clean copy. Richard Preston Chew (1843-1921) raised a battery of horse artillery ("Chew's Battery") at the outbreak of the war, which later became part of the famous Laurel Brigade under Stonewall Jackson's command. He was chief of cavalry guns under Jeb Stuart and fought at Gettysburg, the Wilderness, Spotsylvania Court House, Petersburg and Appomattox.
