    Description

Army Officer D.S. Edwards Autograph Letter Signed. Four pages including integral address leaf, on blue paper, 4to, Alvarado, May 11, 1848. News letter from officer D.S. Edwards to his wife and family, written in anticipation of his return home following Santa Anna's capitulation in Mexico City. He warns his wife to "keep out of debt as much as you can & in order to do that you will require to keep an economical table, to travel very little & not get many new bonnets & dresses." He goes on to discuss the ongoing peace negotiations in Mexico City: "We talk of having peace by the 15th instant in which case I may soon be at home, and go straight to work - to put you all to rights." The peace treaty was approved by the Mexican senate at Quer├ętaro on May 24, ratified on May 30, and news of the end of hostilities was published. Letter is lightly worn at folds; generally fine. From the Taking of Texas Collection.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
