Apollo 8 "A Christmas Eve Prayer From Lunar Orbit" First Day Presentation Signed by Frank Borman, and Clyde W. Tombaugh. A 6¢ "Apollo 8" stamp (Scott #1371) and "Twas the Night Before Christmas" stamp (Scott #1414) has been affixed and First Day cancelled in Washington, D.C. on November 9, 1972. Apollo 8 Commander Frank Borman attended St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Seabrook, Texas. He had been scheduled to participate in a Christmas service there but couldn't because of the timing of the mission. Fellow parishioner and Mission Control engineer Rod Rose suggested that he read a prayer from lunar orbit that could be recorded and played back during the church service.
