Ambrose Burnside Autograph Letter Signed "A E Burnside." One page, 7.75" x 9.75", Chicago, April 30, 1858. Burnside had resigned his commission in the U. S. Army in 1853 to concentrate on his firearms company which was developing the Burnside carbine. The Army purchased 200 from him in 1858. Here he writes to George P. Foster, who worked with Burnside's company producing parts for his guns, regarding the arrival of some prototypes that have been sent to him, in part: "The carbine and pistol came just in time. The pistol I have, and am much obliged to you. I left word for the carbine to be shipped, and have just now finished a letter to Col. Sumner." Smoothed folds with light toning.
