    Description

    Admiral David G. Farragut: Letter Signed [LS] Aboard His Flagship "The Hartford".
    8" x 12.5" single page letter, "U. S. Flagship 'Hartford' Off New Orleans", May 1, 1862, signed "D. G. Farragut". It orders ship's surgeon Stewart Kennedy to "accompany the sick and wounded from this fleet to the Pilot Town, Mississippi River, where they are to be landed. Which having been done you will proceed to the U. S. S. Frigate 'Colorado' and report yourself to the Commanding Officer for duty on board that vessel. " Annotated by Lieut. John L. Davis, confirming the Dr. Kennedy reported for duty as ordered. Written on the very day that the Battle for New Orleans came to a successful end with Union forces occupying the city. Folded in quarters. Paper remnants on one "panel" on verso from previous mounting in an album.
