    Admiral David D. Porter Letter Signed. One page, 8.25" x 13.5", "Naval Academy / Annapolis," October 24, 1866. Addressed to Mate B.G. Perry of the USS Phlox, Porter orders him to Washington where he is to report first to Adm. Radford and then to Adm. Davis "for the purpose of bringing to this place the astronomical instruments belonging to the Naval Academy." Following service in the Civil War, Porter (1813-1891) was named superintendent of the Naval Academy. Docketed on the verso. Porter's signature shows some blooming, as does the rest of the text. Folds, ink splotches at the upper right corner, and fold separation at the left edge of the main horizontal fold.
