1860 College Diploma of Alexander "Sandie" Pendleton, prominent Confederate officer University of Virginia diploma for a degree in "German Language and Literature", issued on July 4, 1860, shortly before the outbreak of the war. Measures 16" x 12" (plus 5.5" extension of blue silk ribbon), 24" x 23" is nicely custom-framed. Extra fine condition, with pleasing display presence.
Pendleton went on to become one of the most celebrated Confederate staff officers of the Civil War, serving on "Stonewall" Jackson's staff, and was by Jackson's side through every battle. An important artifact which evokes images of the heady days in the South as the war loomed, where confidence in Southern military expertise and valor raised hopes of a swift victory over the North. Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
