[Valley Forge] and [3rd New Hampshire Regiment]. Continental Army Stocking Receipts. One page of one leaf, 8.5" x 13", Valley Forge [Pennsylvania], January 28, 1778, recording the receipt of seven supplies of stockings from Captain Daniel Livermore, a commander of the 4th Company, 3rd New Hampshire Regiment, from seven different Continental Army companies - all likely from the 3rd New Hampshire Regiment - while at Valley Forge during the harsh winter of 1777-1778. The seven receipts are listed one after the other on one page for various numbers of stocking pairs. Each of the receipts reads similar to this first entry, "Rec'd of Capt. Daniel Livermore twenty five pairs of Stockings for the Use of my Company. [Signed] Isaac Frye Capt [Frye commanded the 6th Company]." The other six are signed by "Joseph Boynton Ensign" (an adjutant on the regimental staff); "Andrew McGaffey Lt"; "Bondler[?] Richmond Sargt"; "Nathl. Leavitt Ensign"; "Timothy Copperfield[?] Sergt"; and "Jont. Cass Ensign." The final entry is unsigned and reads, "Drawn out of the Continental Store twenty seven pairs of Stockings for the use of my Compy." All edges are slightly irregular. Age-toned paper with some foxing and light soiling. Smoothed folds. One and one-half years after the eventful year of 1776, George Washington's Continental Army wintered at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, twenty miles northwest of Philadelphia. They were tired, plagued by poor training and high turnover, frigid weather, and a lack of supplies such as stockings. Nevertheless, they were a resourceful, hardworking throng of farmers, shoemakers, carpenters, blacksmiths, and other artisans, who were used to living rough lives in extreme weather. The miserable, harsh winter of 1777-1778 proved that they could make-do with little, so these stockings must have been welcomed. By the end of February 1778, nearly 2,500 had died of exposure, starvation, and disease. The 3rd New Hampshire Regiment organized in 1775 and served faithfully during numerous battles, including those at Bunker Hill, Saratoga, and the Siege of Boston. The regiment disbanded in 1781. From the Donald P. Dow Collection.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
HA.com receives more traffic than any other auction house website. (Source: Similarweb.com)
