Description
[Texas Rangers]. Walter Paye Lane Autograph Court Document. "W. P. Lane," 7.75" x 5", Harrison County [Texas], May 9, 1881. Lane, a Confederate general and participant in the Battle of San Jacinto, signs a court document as treasurer of Harrison County writing that they "received Marshall May 9/81 on A.S. Fields." In the early 1840s Lane joined Jack Hays' Texas Rangers, rising to the rank of major and commanding a battalion of Rangers (Lane's Battalion, Texas Mounted Volunteers) by the end of the Mexican War.
