[Texas Rangers]. Sterling C. Robertson Autograph Texas Ranger Discharge Signed "Sterling C Robertson / Capt Rangers." One page, 9" x 4.5", "Dunns Fort," September 17, 1836. In this document, Captain Robertson honorably discharges Private Augustino W. Cook from "my company of rangers." On the reverse Robertson has written, "A W Cook's discharge." Cooke has also written and signed on the reverse, "The auditor or other proper officer will you please deliver to Wm. D. Thompson the audited paper for this Discharge." Some staining, spotting, and soiling. In full:

"This is to certify that Augustino W. Cook joined my company of rangers on the 3rd August and faithfully discharged his duty as a private and is hereby honorably discharged given under my hand this day and date above written."

Sterling Robertson (1785-1842) served as empresario of Robertson's Colony from 1834 until 1835. Then in January 1836, during the Texas Revolution, he was appointed captain of one of the earliest companies of Texas Rangers. Later in March, just months before issuing this discharge, he signed the Texas Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the Republic of Texas.
