    [Texas Rangers] Middleton Tate Johnson Document Signed "M. T. Johnson / Col Coma [Colonel Commanding] / Texas Ranger." One page, 7.75" x 7.5", McKinney [Texas], October 25, 1860. Johnson, a Texas Ranger and the founder of Fort Worth, signs this document discharging Texas Ranger J. T. McGrath. The document certifies "that J. T. McGrath a private of Capt G. S. Fitzhughs Company Texas Mounted Rangers Col M T. Johnson Commanding mustered into service of the State of Texas 14 April 1860 and discharged Oct 25 1860 having performed all the duties of a Soldier faithfully is here by honerably [sic] discharged."

    M. T. Tate (1810-1866) was a Texas politician and Texas Ranger. While serving in a mounted Ranger company in 1849, he built a military fort along the Trinity River which he named for General William Worth. Today, Fort Worth is the seventeenth largest U.S. city. This document is toned with minor ink smears.
