[Siege of Bexar]. Edward Burleson Signed Discharge. One page, 7.5" x 5", with a lengthy endorsement on the verso. "Bexar, December the 13th 1835." In full: "This is to certify that M. W. Bumpsted [sic] entered with the volunteer army under my command on the 4th of December and is now honorably discharged giving him twenty days to go home in. [signed] James Chesher [and] Edward Burleson Com in Chief." On the verso, is a signed endorsement by the discharged soldier Mourad W. Bumstead authorizing Sam Rogers to audit and settle his account with the Provisional Government.

Mourad Bumstead arrived in Texas in 1831, and the following year joined 200 fellow emigrants in an attempt to rescue William B. Travis and his law partner from arrest by Mexican authorities. Mourad joined the Liberty Volunteers in 1835, and participated in the Siege of Bexar, receiving this discharge from Burleson upon victory.

In the spring of 1835, Edward Burleson (1798-1851) served as a member of the committee of safety, but in October, he was elected lieutenant colonel in the infantry in Stephen Austin's army. One month later on November 24, he was assigned general of the volunteer army, commanding his men during the Siege of Bexar at the Grass Fight. Burleson was promoted commander-in-chief of the volunteer army on December 1, 1835, fourteen days before signing this discharge. Shortly after the success at the Grass Fight, the volunteer army disbanded.

Condition: Dampstaining, with flattened folds. A small hole not affecting any text, and tiny chips at edges and in folds. Seals affect Burleson's and Chesher's signatures.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
