    [Revolutionary War]. Provisioning Documents. This grouping consists of over twenty documents dated between 1777-1783, many from the 2nd Connecticut Regiment. Names on documents include those of Oliver Ellsworth, Oliver Wolcott Jr., Nathaniel Wales, Captain Daniel Pendleton, John Crowell, Capt. Martin Lord, Lt. William Henshaw, and more, and are from towns such as Windham, Middletown, and Killingworth. One receipt dated 1782 for "Musket powder" states that the powder should "ship to the Selectmen of Seabrook they Paying the Expenses." Another dated 1780 was "for the Use of the 8th Connecticut Regt." Another receipt for "Officers Cloathing . . . 2nd Con[necticut] Regiment" is from Middletown dated 1781 and lists clothing items and costs for each. Yet another receipt was for clothing "for the use of Company of Men under my Care & Command detached from Genl. Parsons Brigade to do Duty in the Laboratory" (a "laboratory" was anyplace where ordnance stores were prepared). One is for clothing "for the Officers of the 2nd Connect. Regt." One document dated 1783 from Killingworth orders "to deliver Capt. Martin Lord the Obligations due to Caleb Else for Serving in the Connecticut Line of the Continental Army in Col. Swift's Regiment." Included is a "Cloathing" list (15" x 11") for the officers of the 2nd Connecticut Regiment. Other documents are for musket powder; clothing, such as shoes, stockings, frocks, overalls, and woolen shirts; powder casks; rifle frocks; yards of linen; and more. The 2nd Regiment organized in the spring of 1777 with eight companies. Documents bear expected wear, soiling, and age-toning. From the Donald P. Dow Collection.
