    [Revolutionary War]. George Weedon Autograph Document Twice Signed. One page bifolium, 14.5" x 9", n. p., n. d. [circa 1777]. Titled "United States in Accot. with Brigr General George Weedon [the first signature of two] for Recruiting Services," Weedon gives a list monies advanced to officers who "belong to 3 Vnga [Virginia] Regt" between December 1776 and July 1777. At right are two additional entries for money provided to him from General George Washington for recruitment purposes. He signs a second time "G Weedon Brigr Genl." Docketed on the verso. Smoothed folds have weakened with some separation at the upper edge.

    George Weedon (1734-1793), a veteran of the French and Indian War as a lieutenant under George Washington, served first as a general in the Continental Army where he saw action at the Battles of Trenton, Brandywine, and Germantown. He resigned from the army in 1778 and was commissioned a brigadier general in the Virginia militia by Virginia Governor Thomas Jefferson where he participated in the Yorktown Campaign.
