Writing to "Ebenezer Hancock Esqr Depy Pay-Master General of the Army of the United States of America," he orders payment of "thirty six pounds six shillings & five pence, equal to one hundred & twenty one Dollars" to Peleg Wadsworth "for his pay as Major of Brigade in the Service of the United States of America." Accomplished and countersigned by Ward's aide-de-camp, Joseph Ward. Docketed on the verso. Smoothed folds. Ink bleedthrough from the verso. Binding remnants along the left edge.

Peleg Wadsworth (1748-1829), a captain in the Massachusetts militia, served as aide-de-camp to Artemas Ward in 1776. He saw action at the Battle of Long Island in August 1776 and was commissioned a brigadier general of militia the following year. Wadsworth was second in command of land forces during the disastrous Penobscot Expedition. He was captured in 1781 and imprisoned in Fort George, but escaped shortly thereafter. After the war, he represented the Massachusetts District of Maine in the U.S. Congress. Wadsworth was the grandfather of poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
