    Description

    [Republic of Texas]. San Augustine County Oath of Residency. One partially-printed light-blue page, 8" x 10", San Augustine County, Texas, February 14, 1839. Thomas Platt signs this oath swearing that he was a citizen of Texas prior to October 1837 and was, thus, entitled to 1,280 acres of Texas land. With several signatures; docketed on the reverse. Folds ad some soiling. The oath reads:

    "I do Solemnly Swear that I was a resident Citizen of Texas previous to the first of October 1837, and that I intend remaining permanently in the country; that I am a married man and consider myself justly entitled - under the act providing for Emigrants previous to the first of October 1837 - to Twelve hundred & Eighty acres of Land."
