    [Mexican War]. 1st Lieutenant Nathaniel Lyon Autograph Letter Signed. One page, 8" x 10", Mexico City, March 31, 1848, transmitting a military quarterly return to Col. George Bamford, Chief of Ordnance, in Washington. Lyon signs, "N. Lyon / 1st Lt. 2d / Comdg. Compy. 'K'." In part: "Enclosed herewith I send a Quarterly return of Ordnance & Ordnance Stores pertaining to Compy 'K' 2d Infy for the first quarter of 1848." Lyon has the unfortunate distinction of being the first Union general killed during the Civil War. Clean, with two minor tape repairs.Also included is an engraving of Lyon.
