[Jose de Urrea]. Pedro de Valle Autograph Letter Signed and Jesus Garza Gonzalez Circular. Both are in Spanish and are about the escape of Jose de Urrea. General Urrea, was successful in early battles of the Texas Revolution, but afterwards, he rebelled against Santa Anna. The two fought in 1838 at the Battle of Mazatlan. Urrea lost the battle and fled.

Valle's ALS measures 8.5" x 12" from Monterey on November 19, 1838, is marked secret. Valle, the Nuevo Leon Secretary of State, writes that the governor has received a memo from the War Minister stating that authorities at towns situated on roads leading from Durango to Monterey (and from Monterey to Tampico) should take all actions necessary for the apprehension of Urrea, who, according to government news, is presumed to be travelling to Tampico disguised as a muleteer. He orders that necessary measures for the apprehension of Urrea be made. He then orders that this be kept secret. Slight discoloration and one hole at the central horizontal fold.

The Garza Gonzalez circular (one printed page of a bifolium, 6" x 8.5", Monterey, August 1, 1840) bears official penned notations on page one and a signature on the page two and issues a decree made by Jose Maria de Tornel telling General Mariano Arista, the commander general of the Department of Nuevo Leon, about the escape of Jose Urrea. Very clean.
