    Description

    [John Hancock]. Jonathan Titcomb Letter Signed. One page with integral address sheet, 6" x 7.25", Boston, October 22, 1788. As Brigadier general of the Massachusetts militia, Titcomb writes to "His Excellency Governour Hancock", and requests a change be made in the regimental structure of a brigade. In part: "Take into consideration the propriety of dividing the first regiment in the 2d Brigade of the Division of Essex by setting off the towns of Salisbury and Almsbury there from to form a regiment by themselves." Evenly toned, with bold ink. Large pieces have been cut/torn away from the blank integral, but does not affect any text.
