[Enola Gay]. Paul W. Tibbets, Jr., Thomas Ferebee, and Theodore J. Van Kirk, Enola Gay Crew Members, Signed Photograph. Photographic print, 10" x 8", [Tinian Island?]; [1945]. Photographic print signed by "Tom Ferebee Bombardier. 6 Aug. 1945", "Paul Tibbets-Pilot", and "Dutch Van Kirk-Navigator." Photograph is of Enola Gray on runway.

The Enola Gay was a Boeing B-29 bomber, named after Enola Tibbets, the mother of the pilot Colonel Paul Tibbets. On August 6, 1945, the bomber became the first aircraft to drop an atomic bomb in warfare. The bomb, code-named "Little Boy," was targeted at the city of Hiroshima, Japan, and caused the near-complete destruction of the city. Enola Gay participated in the second atomic attack as the weather reconnaissance aircraft for the primary target of Kokura, but clouds and drifting smoke resulted in a secondary target, Nagasaki, being bombed instead.
