[Confederate Enlistments]: Scarce Confederate Enlistment Forms From Ireland, France, and Switzerland.
Confederate enlistment forms are hard to find on the market these days; they are much more scarce than Union enlistment forms. Two of the enlistment forms offered here are from Castle Pinkney in Charleston Harbor and the third is from Battery Pringle on James Island. 1) The first enlistment form, measuring 7.75" x 9.75", is from Castle Pinkney and is printed "Confederate States of America, State of South Carolina" and shows a palmetto tree emblem. This rare form, dated May 5, 1862, is for Miles Tierman, who was born in Ireland. It is signed by Lieutenant Charles English. Condition is good with one tear at the top. 2) This document, measuring 8" x 9.75", is headed "South Carolina, Castle Pinkney" and is for George Moog, a baker who was born in France. The document, dated March 25, 1861, is signed by both the examining surgeon, W.F. Hutchinson, and the recruiting officer, F.L. Childs, who served served as captain in South Carolina's Child's Light Artillery. Condition fine with expected aging. 3) "State of South Carolina, Battery Pringle, James Island" is written at the top of this document, measuring 7.5" x 9.5", and dated February 18, 1864. The form is made out for John Wiedmer, who was born in Switzerland, and signed by the examining surgeon Thomas C. Girardeau and by Theodore B. Hayne, Captain of Company C, 15th Battalion, South Carolina Heavy Artillery. Condition is very good with some ink stains.

These three rare documents provide insight to the makeup of the Confederate Army.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
