[Civil War] Winfield S. Featherston Autograph Letter Signed. "W. S. Featherston." One page, 8" x 10", Holly Springs [Mississippi], July 10, 1884. Winfield Scott Featherston, former Confederate general and Mississippi State legislator, is writing to Mrs. M. A. Williams in reference to a teaching job. It reads in part:

"It will afford me great pleasure to assist you in getting a situation as a teacher in our school here. The election of teachers will take place on the first Monday in August...It is rumored, that one of the former teachers will not apply again, leaving one vacancy. I will do all I can for you..."

Written in a bold hand, the letter has some staining toward the top left margin, but the text is unaffected. Some of the folds are weakened, but intact. Very fine.
