    [Civil War] Prisoner of War Letter from Camp Chase. Two pages, 7.75" x 9.75", Columbus, April 17, 1862. Addressed to "the Ladies of Newport, Ky" from "The undersigned prisoners of war confined at Camp Chase," wishing to "express to you our sincere thanks for the very acceptable donations which you have made us...our hearts with emotions of pride of pleasure and of gratitude towards those who though they do not know & have never seen us - activated however by a common sympathy - have so generously come forward to our relief." The letter is signed by twenty-six prisoners and members of the Fourth and Fifteenth Mississippi Regiments. Some soiling along the margin and the folds; minor archival repair on the verso, but overall in fine condition.
