    Description

[Civil War] George W. Brent Autograph Letter Signed to General Daniel Ruggles concerning the evacuation of Grenada, Mississippi, as a Lieutenant Colonel and "Actg. Chief of Staff." "George Wm. Brent." Two pages, 7.75" 10.75", on blue paper, Tupelo, June 13, 1862. Following the "wishes of the Commander of the Forces," Brent's letter reads in part:

"Grenada will be evacuated as a Depot for this Army, with the least delay practicable; to which end, you will have all the Ordnance, ordnance stores, and supplies, and other public property there, sent with all practicable dispatch to Gainesville, Alabama, via Jackson and Meridian Miss. - reserving only subsistence for your command while at Grenada, and ten days rations for the movement."

Middle horizontal fold is weak and broken at the right. Edges are chipped and some soiling along the bottom and right margins. Very good.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
