[Civil War]. General William D. Whipple Letter Press Book. Measuring 5.75" x 9" and bound in brown cloth over boards, this book contains fifteen letter pressings, on yellow onionskin paper, spanning the months October 1864 through March 1865 (with one additional partial letter dated 1877-1878). Gen. Whipple was assistant adjutant general attached to the Middle Department and was chief of staff to Gen. George H. Thomas. In the majority of the letters, Whipple is relaying orders from department commander Gen. George Cadwalader. He also uses the book to copy letters from his immediate commander, Gen. Thomas, such as one sent to Lt. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant, then located at City Point, Virginia, during the Siege of Petersburg, March 15, 1865: "Five thousand men under Brig. Gen. Cruft started from Chattanooga at 4 P.M. to-day for Gen. Sherman. I am on my way to Knoxville to arrange matters there." The spine is broken and has begun to separate from the textblock, which remains tightly bound. Boards are warped in places and moderately worn.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
