    Description

[Civil War] Edwin Miller Autograph Letter Signed. "Edwin Miller." Four pages, 7.25" x 9.25", on lined paper, Richmond, November 12, 1862, to his mother regarding his situation in the army stationed outside of the Confederate capital of Richmond, Virginia. Of it, he says in part: "The main army has fallen back to Culpepper, some think they will continue to do so until they reach this place. The enemy from reports are steadily advancing as our troops retire." Written on thin paper, some ink bleed-through is present, but the letter is still legible; some staining along the right vertical fold. Fine.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
