    Description

    [Civil War] Confederate Archive of Five Items. Includes special orders, one letter, and a 1916 congressional speech concerning pensions for Confederate veterans. All very good to fine.

    More Information:

    (1) Confederate Special Order. Six pages on lined paper, 9" x 11", September 7, 1864, Richmond, with heading "Adjt. & Inspt. General's Office/ Special Orders No. 212", concerning matters of individual soldiers, such as the pardoning of punishments, extensions of leaves, and transfers. Some slight separations at folds.

     

    (2) Confederate Order. One page, 7.5" x 10", February 16, 1863, Danville, Virginia, "Ordnance Office". An "Order" issued to command "the proper conduct of the work".

     

    (3) Confederate Special Order. Twelve pages, 8" x 10", December 7, 1864, Richmond, with heading "Adjutant  & Inspector Gen. Office/ S. O. No. 290", listing resignations, transfers, a list of those who have been "dropped from the Rolls for prolonged absence from duty without leave", and more.

     

    (4) Autograph Letter Signed by the surgeon in charge. One page, 7.75" x 10", February 19, 1865, Lynchburg "Gen. Hospital No. 1", informing Captain Charles Thompson of the Louisiana Artillery that a certain private's certificate was "not genuine".

     

    (5) Pensions for Confederate Soldiers. Speech of Hon. John N. Tillman of Arkansas in the House of Representatives, February 11, 1916. Washington. 1916, 6" x 9.5", 29 pages.
