[Civil War: Battle of Hampton Roads] Confederate Sailor's Letter. 4pp., a single sheet measuring 12.5" x 8", "Camp on the Road", circa March 1862. A letter by Sam A. Swanson; in part: "There has been a naval engagement in Hampton Roads since I last wrote in which the confederates gained a brilliant victory sinking and burning three of the enemyes [sic] ships without suffering any loss. The Virginia battering ram was the confederate [sic] ship engaged. The names of the Federal steamers were Minesota [sic], Congres [sic] and the Tuscarora [it was actually the Cumberland]. I think it is also reported that we had a fight in Missouri and Price has been victorious... it is said that the gallant McCulloch fell in the battle as well as McIntosh..." [sic] Excellent content letter written in pencil. It has been mounted to a board along the top margin and lower right corner, but can likely be lifted through restoration. Only pages two and three of the letter are viewable.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
