    [Civil War]. Archive of 4 Letters and 1 Book. Three of the letters are written between a husband (Cornelius L. Burckmyer of Charleston, South Carolina) and his wife, each dated 1864: (1) from Burckmyer to his wife, November 1864, 4 pages, signed "Your loving husband" with transmittal envelope addressed to Mrs. Burckmyer of Liverpool, England; (2) from wife to husband, November 20, 1864, 4 pages, signed "C. R. B."; (3) from wife to husband, December 7, 1864, 4 pages with transmittal envelope addressed to Cornelius Burckmyer, "Confederate States of America." The fourth letter is a six-page letter from mother to her son, dated August 1885 from Spartanburg, South Carolina. A few of the letters have separated at some folds. Also included is the book The Burckmyer Letters: March 1863-June 1865 (Columbia, S.C.: The State Company, 1926); 476pp.; maroon cloth over boards exhibiting minor wear.
